You probably know that virtually everyone wants a beautiful, white smile. But did you know that there are a few things that can prevent you from having your ideal smile, such as yellow teeth or white spots on your teeth? These white spots can be noticeable and unattractive, and even a sign of other issues.

White spots are often the result of a condition called enamel hypoplasia. This condition could be the result of poor oral hygiene, plaque buildup, chronic dry mouth, or acid reflux disease. Enamel hypoplasia can also lead to sensitive teeth or tooth discoloration.

You can also develop these spots if your enamel wears down. Over time, enamel can wear down through a process known as demineralization. In essence, if your teeth don’t get enough minerals—such as calcium—your enamel can begin to wear down, which can ultimately lead to these white spots. However, these spots could also be formed if your teeth are exposed to too much fluoride.

If you have white tooth spots, there are a few things you can consider. Our team could recommend veneers, which are thin shells that are fused to your teeth to cover imperfections. We may also recommend a treatment designed to strengthen your enamel or examine your smile to make sure you’re getting the right amount of minerals.
