The Top 4 Types of Food to Avoid This Season

Posted .

The holiday season is finally here! With the season comes all the merry-makings of fantastic feasts, delightful sweets, and gingerbread treats. However, not all of the foods that come with the holiday seasons are good for our oral health. Some, if you are not careful, can even seriously damage our teeth and gums.

Here is a list of the top four types of foods to avoid this season:

– Hard Candies: Hard candies can be exceptionally hard, which can easily damage your teeth. Exercise caution when biting into it to avoid chipping or cracking your teeth. These can include candy canes, peanut brittle, lollipops, peppermint bark, wrapped candies, cinnamon dots, and many others.

– Popcorn Balls: Popcorn balls can easily chip or crack teeth if they are too hard. They also easily lodge in hidden places in between your teeth and gums.

– Sticky Candy: Sticky candies such as caramels, taffy, cinnamon bears or gummies all can easily stick to your teeth and gums. Some sticky candy is very hard to wash away with brushing alone.

– Sour Candy: Sour candies have an extremely high acidic content, with some types being nearly as acidic as car battery acid. As such, the high acidity of sour sweets presents a great risk of enamel loss and cavities.
